Human & Rohde, Inc. was involved in all facets of the design of the playground and outdoor environment for this new Child Care Center including site analysis, program development with the school’s administrative staff, and the preparation of conceptual plans, Master Plan, construction documents, grading plan, and landscape plan for the entire site. The goal was to provide individual, unique and separate play spaces for infants and toddlers along with shared, multi-purpose spaces accessible by all, including a children’s gardening area. The playground design coordinated with the architecture of the new facility, was sensitive to the original landforms, respectful of adjacent residents, and incorporated recycled materials to fulfill Towson University’s “green” directives for new development. All plant material was selected to be suitable for children’s environments and to provide year-round interest, shade, color and texture. The facility was dedicated in the Spring of 2007. Cost of the playground improvements was approximately $155,000.
